I have gigantic teeth. Pics to follow.
Braces off in a month, May 6th.
My cheeks and neck have a healthy yellow glow! The most gruesome part of the recovery is behind me; I can hear again, almost talk clearly, and at long last brush my teeth. There is some sort of rubber retainer over my braces that is getting in the way of pretty much everything and makessshhh mee talk like thissshh. My face is still just a little bit puffy but at this point I'm not sure how much of it is due to the new appliance and modified bone structure. Very little I hope because I remind myself of Peter Pettigrew. I think the bones are starting to settle as well. A few days ago yawning generating a comforting grinding noise and a feeling of extreme pressure, but this too seems to have stopped. The only thing bothering me now is my nose/sinuses which still feel raw. The nose bleeds have stopped however, which is pleasant.
It's still only been a week so I'm not trying to draw any conclusions, but everything looks good to me.
For the uninitiated: The worst part about recovering from oral surgery is the moratorium on brushing ones teeth. Oh god is it disgusting in there. I'm wondering if I can get around this by maybe swallowing an alka seltzer tablet. The swelling has gone down a bit and still no pain, but also no feeling in my gums. When I yawned this morning fluid trapped near my ear ( seriously how does this happen? ) moved I can hear a lot better. Last night I had the craziest dreams...
Seriously, I'm in a really good mood. Good ride today: short, sweet and fast. Work went by quickly and I'm really on top of things. I got one of my screws replaced today, that was a downer, but the Doctor claims its working. I'm going to see an oral surgeon anyway, but right now I'm not worried about that. Monday night I had a really fun rehearsal with the Saxyderms, and we're playing outside on July 4th someplace. Tommorow is my 24th birthday, and I was planning on taking the day off but instead I'm taking off the 5th so my vacation will be from July 4th - July 23rd inclusive. I'm going home this weekend to see my family, and probably bike Wompatuck State Park if I can find some fresh tubes lying around my apartment. Barring that I'll cruise around the South Shore which is a scenic area. Maybe I'll stay an extra day and do both? I tell you: life is good!
One of the screws in my jaw is loose and moves several millimeters when the elastics are applied. Ive contacted my doctor. I'm not convinced at all that these are going to work :[
I got my TADs ( no I don't know what that stands for) installed yesterday. They gave me novacaine and then quite literally screwed two screws in my upper jaw. With a screwdriver. I think this is wierdest piece of orthodonic equipment I've had yet. They are used to anchor two elastics which attach to hooks on my braces and the mounting of my trans-palatal (sp?) arch to intrude my molars into my jaw. One of the elastics promptly snapped when I got back to work yesterday so i had to go again today. So add these to the list of things which are scarring the inside of my cheeks. I'm so beat. I'm definitely looking forward to them being removed. I'm definitely -not- looking forward to removal process. A year from now these little guys are going to be quite content where they are and won't want to move.
My periodontist said the tissue graft was a success. It sill sets back braces by a month though, and this makes me unhappy.
My mouth is a fucking horrorshow. The doctor told me not to look, but its like a car accident
