Wrapping my knees all week long has helped a lot and I can almost get around without. Still weak, still can't bike. This sucks. Maybe in October?
I want my knees back so badly.
My left knee has been acting up. I think it's my Illiotibial band, but I can't be sure. This started in July after that one weekend I tried pushing myself on hills and it has been hurting on and off while riding since then. What a joke. I didn't go out more than a handful of times Summer so this is just so sad and pathetic. Further hilarity: I ride a triple and it still happened.
I rode a some last week, mostly as an excuse to get out of the house and try new stretches but it's not really working. It could be a issue with fit, but the bike feels spot on. It may also be my much maligned pedals, which makes me want to switch to some cheap platforms just to see what happens. I spent some time observing my toes and they are pointing dead ahead. My natural tendency is to be duck footed, but supposively floating cleats should accomodate.
Back in Summer/Fall 2006 I pushed myself much harder and often and I never had any problems. I remember biking to exhaustion several times a weekend and not feeling anything other than fatigue. I didn't follow a regimen, or any logical sort of progression, I just rode as often as possible.
Maybe I should just sell my road bike and get another cheap-ass hardtail. I hate admitting it, but I think I enjoyed myself more then than I do now.
Two solid weeks of lurking on mtbr.com have taught me two things:
- Most Freeride/Downhill videos have awful soundtracks
- All mountain bikers are 200+ lbs, and are amazed when they trash their ultralight XC components taking 6 foot drops
Still on the fence about the new components.
of masturbating to the specialized catalog. Soon precious, soon you will have what you desire.
Except I have three chain rings and brakes :3

I got bored tonight and thought it would be fun to bike up Chestnut hill in the freezing cold. Driving up it on the way to Showa, I always thought it would be ab impossible feat but I was actually accelerating towards the end. Time to look for another hill. I stopped at NEU to hit up Connor Larkin's, so it's not like I did that in one sitting.
Lost my second rear light in a month. The damn thing bounced off my bike for no particular reason and then, in the style of Wonderyears, a Lexus crushed it as I watched helpless from the curb. I swear people aim for those damn things when they see me staring hopelessly. This happened in precisely the same manner last spring, but I believe the offender was driving a jaguar. I think the solution is either going to be adding a tonne of reflective tape to my bag, or making/buying another blinker and sewing it in place. I still like biking in the city. Last Friday I biked home from NU at 1AM, spooky! So far I haven't been doored, rammed, or t-boned but it has only been two months since I've been here. I'll keep my fingers crossed. It really is nice to live and ride in a place where so many other people are doing it. I find it keeps me getting in the saddle just knowing other people are out there riding harder than I am.
I think it would be fun to try a dualthon, or triathalon. I could definitely keep running over the winter ( there is a track across the street at Tufts) but I have no idea how I when or where I would practice swimming. I certainly seem to lean more to being lean and fast than large and strong. When I have time to exercise that is. hmmm
Speaking of time, I am taking a break from Overtime for a week or two. Or three. Getting home before 4 is damn addictive.
Seriously, I'm in a really good mood. Good ride today: short, sweet and fast. Work went by quickly and I'm really on top of things. I got one of my screws replaced today, that was a downer, but the Doctor claims its working. I'm going to see an oral surgeon anyway, but right now I'm not worried about that. Monday night I had a really fun rehearsal with the Saxyderms, and we're playing outside on July 4th someplace. Tommorow is my 24th birthday, and I was planning on taking the day off but instead I'm taking off the 5th so my vacation will be from July 4th - July 23rd inclusive. I'm going home this weekend to see my family, and probably bike Wompatuck State Park if I can find some fresh tubes lying around my apartment. Barring that I'll cruise around the South Shore which is a scenic area. Maybe I'll stay an extra day and do both? I tell you: life is good!

Hot damn this was an awesome weekend! Yesterday I picked up some bar ends to see if they're not all hype. So far I like them for the added variety in grips but I'm entirely sure if they're helping my climbing. On that note: I keep reading that when mountain biking you should never be in the saddle, which seems like bullshit when climbing becauses bikes are rear-wheel drive. Whenever I hit a hill with gravel standing only makes me spin my wheels in frustation. So damn the internet, I'm keeping my CG over the back end so I can actually get some power on target. Tarmac or solid earth climbs, stump jumping, and downhill blitzkrieging are another story altogether :3 . I did the Fells CW today and it was the first time I actually completed the entire thing without bailing 3/4 to the end from exhaustion. I'm not sure where the credit lies, but It seemed to be mostly that CW vs CCW is just a much easier. Hell after I found the correct exit ( which is a feat in itself ) I took the long way home and biked another 8 or so miles on the road. Im fairly sure this is the most fit I've ever been.
I'm going to chill out now, read and ruin all fitness gains by quaffing Belgian Ales. devo is a staunch supporter of Hoegaarden, I'm still a Blue Moon fan. It tastes mediciney I swear! Fortunately, I have a 6-pack of das witbeir and Honey Moon in my fridge so all is well.
Allright gents the papasan is callin'
